Thanks Biljana! I totally, and very sadly, agree with you. I just wonder how has it been possible for all of us spoiled Europeans to end up so low in terms of human quality of the governing and critical thinking of the governed. There must be structural conditions that facilitate the emergence of social scum in capitalist societies, and I wonder if some researchers have studies those, and proposed any solution... Thanks again for being a gentle voice of sanity in this colossal mess.

The Ukraine conflict is stuck in an indecisive mode - albeit one that is exhausting for Kiev, due to attrition. The chief sponsor, US, can neither escalate (and fail trying or pay costs elsewhere such as Yemen/Iran) nor walk away. Either move would reveal international weakness.

But the existing slow attritional dynamic of the conflict can be maintained without paying that cost, at least for a while. It is a simple matter of paying the power figures in Kiev.

Trump's collection of political sponsors have other priorities (eg Israel, China, enriching selves via epic financial frauds), but the problem is those also cannot admit a decline in US self-perception of being able to successfully apply pressure around the world.
